This Syndicate has been created in 1992, with the object of gathering the professionals who are participating in the production and the promotion of the Martinique Agricultural Rum, in order to ensure the study and the protection of their interests as far as the denomination "Martinique Agricultural Rum" is concerned in France and in the whole world.

 

Are entitled to join the Syndicate:

• The Martinique Agricultural Rum Producers,
• The Growers of sugar cane used to produce Martinique Agricultural Rum

 

The Syndicate is managed by a Board of nine members comprising:

• 5 Martinique Agricultural Rum Producers
• 4 sugar cane Growers.

 

The annual general meeting elects the members of the Board by the absolute majority of the present or represented members of the Syndicate.

 

The elected Board members appoint among themselves a Chairman who is a Martinique Agricultural Rum producer and the other members of the committee.

 

The members of the Board are elected for three years and are re-eligible.

 

The third of the members of the Board are to be replaced or re-elected every year.

RELATIONS BETWEEN THE SYNDICATE AND THE "INSTITUT NATIONAL DES APPELLATIONS D'ORIGINE"

 

Due to the lack of a permanent representative of the "Institut National des Appellations d'Origine" (INAO) in Martinique , the Syndicate has signed on March 28th, 1997, an agreement with this Institute. The purpose of this agreement is to establish the way the Syndicate contributes to the control of the production conditions and to the organization of the organoleptic and analytical tests of the rums which are granted the "AOC Martinique".
